Julia

-Where do you live and what is it like?
I live in Ukraine, in Cherkassy. It's not that easy ‘cause I'm a single mom, I've got 4 jobs that give me money to pay my rent and buy some food... but I survive.

-What are your favorite things to do?
I like to read books and to write poems and dance.

-How old are you?
I'm 33, though sometimes I feel like 533

-What do you do either for schooling or as a job?
I'm a teacher of English and I work in Hesed - Jewish charity fund

-How do you and your friends get most of your information about the world? (Internet, TV, Radio, etc.)
Internet. Definitely Internet

-I know both Russian and Ukrainian are popular languages in Ukraine. Which language(s) do you speak? Are there differences between the people that use Ukrainian and the people that speak Russian?
I prefer Russian. I grew up in the Soviet Union and Russian was the language for all the countries in it, but nowadays young people speak Ukrainian more often. I have no problem with both languages.

-What is your favorite TV show, website, newspaper, magazine, book?
I don't have only one book or website, I like Koehlo (almost all his books), I like Jewish websites (Toldot, jewish.ru, jew-fund.kiev.ua etc). I like websites with online movies and series (btvguide.com, sidereel.com)

-In your school, how much did you learn about "media education?" That includes how to use different types of media, how to understand the motives of media producers, and how to produce your own media content.
In my time we had no subject concerning media, so we had no media education at all.

-How much of the media you use (TV shows, websites, etc.) is produced in Ukraine? How much is from another country?
Well, my daughter watches TV and every show is produced either in Ukraine or in Russia. I use only a couple of Ukrainian websites, all the rest (and most of which I use) are preferably English or American.
